Small Business "Word of Mouth" Marketing = Social Media

This morning I read a post by Lisa Barone of Outspoken Media that highlighted the lack of participation of small businesses on social media (read the post by clicking here). I find it interesting that small business owners are always seeking ways to do marketing in a cost effective way but don't even have a website. These businesses that are not utilizing social media are truly missing the boat. They talk about "word of mouth" marketing but completely miss the point of social media which is designed to talk to customers and get them to share experiences and talk about you.
