Small Business Grants...What They Really Are

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me what kind of grants are available for small businesses I would be rich and living on a beach somewhere. Everyone is looking for undiluted capital (fancy term for free money). The problem is that there really is no free money. If you can actually find and qualify for a grant there are always strings attached. You may not have to pay it back but you will definitely have to work for it.…

Entrepreneurial Spirit means: Dreaming

Entrepreneurial Spirit means:Dreaming

A dream just doesn’t come true. It usually takes persistence and a lot of hard work and it hardly ever happens over night but dream on. At times you will have people telling you that it is not worth it but don’t listen to the skeptics, listen to those you trust and dream on. There will be times of great joy and times of difficulty but dream on. You will have to motivate your self at times and other times you will move with little effort but dream… Continue

In a recent article I read on Entreprenuer.com I was surprised at some of the simple things business owners are doing to find opportunity amidst the financial problems that are all around us. The article states that “One year ago, bank loans for clients with personal credit scores as low as 660 and who had only been in business six months were not as hard to come by says David Gass, president of Las Vegas-based Business Credit Services, a firm that advises business owners on how to obtain… Continue

The economy and it's affect on small business lending...

I'm sitting here at the OSU-Newark e-lounge, trying to recollect everything I just told a reporter from the local newspaper. He was picking my brain on how I thought the state of the economy was affecting bank lending to small businesses.

I was just having this conversation with our local Economic Development Director earlier in the day. He had a little different spin, since they called him as well....and his thoughts pertained to what he's seeing in manufacturing and big-box… Continue

Going Green: A Competitive Edge

‘Going Green’ is more than a fad; it’s the new way of doing business and essential for maintaining a competitive edge. Trimming carbon emissions, paper output and energy consumption are just a few examples of how businesses are setting themselves apart and attracting new customers concerned about the impact products and services they purchase are having on the environment. But this isn’t just a point of ethics-it’s a multi-billion dollar industry with the potential to change the face of your… Continue
