Ohio SBDC Business Consultant, Certified Business Analyst, Entrepreneur, Business Owner, Developer, and Investor

"Choose a goal for which you are willing to exchange a piece of your life..."

I’ve been a Business Consultant/ Certified Business Analyst with the Ohio Small Business Development Centers for the past 12 years. I also direct a local SBDC Center, based out of the Economic Development / Planning Commission offices at Newark & Licking County.

As an entrepreneur, business owner and investor,....I've been involved in numorous biz ventures, and gained plenty of "street-smarts" with: start-ups, acquisitions and exits.
Because of my entrepreneurial background,...my expertise lends itself towards: business/ strategic planning, financial analysis, entrepreneurship, and creative financing. Over the years, I’ve helped secure millions of dollars in loans and equity capital for start-up, existing and emerging businesses. I’ve also been a partner in Economic Development and the retention/ expansion of companies throughout Ohio for many years.

I earned my A.A.S. from The Ohio State University, B.S. / Business Management from Park University, Magna Cum Laude, and my CBA from Capital University.

In my spare time….yeah right,…no really,…I balance my work with plenty of play-time to maintain BALANCE. I'm an avid kayaker/ whitewater buff and paddle with two different clubs, as we explore every water source we can get to. I also enjoy: traveling, boating, swimming, bicycling, hiking, working-out, playing piano, writing, singing, finding new biz deals, and spending time with my daughters.

Work hard, like everything depends on you. Have faith, like everything depends on God.
I hope to be able to make a positive impact in the world around me. Helping others attain their goals by being a resource of information and capital.
RM

What CEOs really think about Social Media

What CEOs Really Think About Social Media

As you all know, the Ohio SBDC is a firm believer in using Social Media as a strong business tool for interaction with our clients and networking with the Small Business community. This will be one of the HOT TOPICS buzzing around our Ohio Growth Summit and Ignite Columbus 4 presentations on June 8th and 9th here at Columbus State.…

Community Capitalism

I just read the book, " Community Capitalism" - Lessons from Kalamazoo and beyond...as featured in Fast Company Magazine. A great read by Ron Kitchens that is being distributed throughout Economic Development venues.

As an attendee of a community event put on by the Licking County Chamber of Commerce last night,...I came away inspired by the business model of a city in (that state up north), by the name of Kalamazoo.

5 strategic principles were shared that may be learned… Continue

The economy and it's affect on small business lending...

I'm sitting here at the OSU-Newark e-lounge, trying to recollect everything I just told a reporter from the local newspaper. He was picking my brain on how I thought the state of the economy was affecting bank lending to small businesses.

I was just having this conversation with our local Economic Development Director earlier in the day. He had a little different spin, since they called him as well....and his thoughts pertained to what he's seeing in manufacturing and big-box… Continue

Shopping for a Business Loan?

Anyone who's been around the Business-Banking-World, will tell you that things have really tightened up recently. Many of the "Big Boys" on the block are sitting back and protecting their current portfolios and minimizing new risks, such as small business loans.

During these economic times, I've found that many banks are sending out notices such as: suspending further advances to existing credit lines, decreasing home equity lines of credit or cancelling them, due to home values… Continue

Hi Randy, thank you for the information. At the moment we've been trying to set up an appointment to meet with David Rivers, who is supposed to contact us tomorrow to help us navigate our way through the start up phase. I am keeping my options open though as Tonya Wilson had referred me to you initially because I live here in Heath (in the meantime, we met up with David during the Biz Start Now classes back in April). We definitely need some assistance and are anxious to get started!

Hi Randy! Thanks for the friend add and kind welcome. At this time, I'm not looking to sell perishables, but I really appreciate the inquiry. I am, however, always looking for great Ohio-based companies that fit within the realms of eco-friendly, independent, and unique companies whose philosophies are in line with my own. Once per week, I feature a different Ohio-related thing (artist, business, store, brand, whatnot) on my design/lifestyle blog Oh My Word! I welcome you to pass it along, have your friends take a look & see if it's a right fit. It's always great to support one another!
